Carl Albert defense muffles Durant
The Sunday Sun
FROM STAFF REPORTS
DURANT — Second-ranked Carl Albert’s defense limited Durant to just nine yards in the opening half as the Titans rumbled to a 42-7 victory on the road Friday night.
Carl Albert, tops in the district with an untarnished 6-0 mark, took an early 7-0 advantage after a David Oku 20-yard touchdown run.
But the Lions were in it early after a Titan turnover to get even at 7-apiece.
From there, Daytawion Lowe hauled in a 60-yard pass from JT Realmuto and Realmuto scooted into paydirt from 16 yards out for a 21-7 cushion at the halftime horn. Realmuto finished the game 3-of-9 passing for 69 yards and also rushed for a pair of scores and 134 yards. On his passing night, he had three drops that would have went for big plays.
In the third, Lowe, who orally committed to play collegiately at Oklahoma State on Thursday afternoon, picked off a pass and took it back 65 yards for a TD.
“Our defense played really, really good,” Titan braintrust Gary Rose said after the win. “We had 250 yards to their nine at the half.
“Tre (Trevante Porter) had two big hits and was the leading tackler.”
Teammates Morgan Christy, Lowe and Markell Walker all had interceptions.
In the final quarter, Oku got loose for a 90-yard score. But a yellow hanky wiped out another one of the star’s electrifying runs.
“I bet in four years, he’s had 1,000 yards called back because of penalties,” Rose noted.
Amazingly, Realmuto followed up Oku’s call-back with a 92-yard touchdown run.
Carl Albert kicker Austin Manger banged home a perfect 6-for-6 on point-after-touchdown kicks.
Oku wound up with 98 yards rushing and the Titans outgained Durant, 344-142.
The Titans (8-1,6-0) will host EastOC’s Harrah next week in the final regular season game of the year.
EastOC’s STAR SPENCER also had a long road trip at Mannford. The Bobcats whipped the Pirates, 57-14. The Cats will host Glenpool for the district championship Friday night.
