Lady Titans start off with win

By Scott Wanish, sports editor
The Sunday Sun

Defending state champion Carl Albert has only played one softball game this month due to the rain.

The Lady Titans are 1-0 with a 13-5 triumph a week ago at Class 6A’s Stillwater.

Carl Albert raced across the plate nine times in the first inning as Whitney Robinson earned the pitching win.

Hilary Weatherford knocked in two runs with a bases-loaded double and teammate Hunter Conover cleared the bases for three RBIs with a double later in the contest.

Both Carl Albert’s Ashlee Dodson and Taylor Borum batted 3-for-4 in the game.

The Lady Titans and EastOC’s JONES competed in the Carl Albert Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Carl Albert will play at Suburban Conference rival HARRAH on Tuesday, Sept. 9 in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.

On Thursday, Harrah picked up a 4-1 triumph over McLoud at home.

Ali Manship (5-1) tossed a four-hitter while striking out five as the Lady Panthers improved to 6-1 as a team. Harrah played Noble Friday night and will host El Reno at 6:30 p.m. Monday and play at Holdenville Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The Lady Panthers were aided by McLoud errors and scored one in the second inning and three in the sixth. In the sixth frame, Beth Manship (1-for-3) picked up a two-run single.

Teammates Holly Grandstaff and Jessica Seay eached hit 2-for-3 in the win.

In the Broken Arrow Tournament, CHOCTAW got edged 1-0 by host Broken Arrow while DEL CITY got topped 8-3 by Norman North in Del City Thursday.

Also on Thursday, Dewar blanked LUTHER 11-zip.
