Jackets, Bombers to play at state

Though Choctaw’s Morgan Treaster defeated the Bombers of Midwest City 6-3 in AAA American Legion district play, Midwest City will still compete in the state tournament beginning next Thursday at Choctaw due to finishing as the runner-up.

The Choctaw pitching staff scattered five hits as the Yellowjackets doubled up the Bombers.

For Midwest City, Greg Nelson poked an RBI double and J.R. Head drove in a run with a base hit.

The Bombers (25-24) have been led throughout the summer by the duo, as both athletes have hit above the .400 mark.

“Both of them have been pitching really well and have been having good summers,” Midwest City head coach Craig Troxell said.

A youthful surprise for the Bombers this summer has been sophomore-to-be catcher Denver Johnson, who hit .351 through eight games. He played spring ball at Jarman.
