Freer perfect; Outlaws stand 32-13

By Scott Wanish, sports editor
The Sunday Sun

Current Midwest City Outlaw hurler and former Midwest City Bomber pitcher Justin Freer upped his personal pitching record to 5-0 Tuesday night as Post 170 blitzed the Edmond Travelers 12-2 at Rose State College.

He gave up a two-run homer in the top of the first inning, but settled down to hold the Edmond bats scoreless the rest of the way. Freer whiffed six and did not walk a batter.

Midwest City banged out 11 hits in the 10-run victory and plated seven runs in the second inning to put the game away.

Carl Albert product Brennan Murphy (3-for-3, 2B) led the inning off with a base hit and later scored on Jim Miner’s run-scoring single. Then Jeremy Wright, a new addition from McLoud, got to first on a base on balls and Derek Glenn knocked home Miner with a hit.

Cody Ferrell followed with a walk and Chad Carman picked up a two-run single.

JT Realmuto drove one out of the park and now possesses 59 runs batted in on the season, 14 more than runner-up Jordan Price.

Stephen Henderson out of Choctaw High School collected a two-run single in the third.

Midwest City upped its record to 32-13 before competing in the Elk City Tournament over the weekend.

On Monday night at Rose State College, Post 170 fell 5-3 in the opener to the Oklahoma City Ambassadors but outslugged the Edmond Stars 14-13 in the late contest.

In the loss, Price was an untarnished 4-for-4 and only three other Outlaws managed to get in the hit column.

Going into the bottom of the third in the victory over the Stars, Edmond actually built up an 11-3 advantage. But Midwest City started to turn the wheels as it plated three in the third, a pair in the fourth, three in the fifth, a run in the sixth and a pair in the last of the seventh for the comeback triumph.

Post 170 began the seventh with a Price hit by pitch, a Murphy base on balls and then a groundout. But on the fielder’s choice, a throwing error incurred allowing Price to score and even things up at 13-13.

Miner then recorded the game-winning base hit to score Zac Chase.
