Titans wrap us season with title

The Carl Albert Titans wrapped up June with a 34-7 record for the summer season including a championship trophy in the postseason tournament held at Putnam City High School. Carl Albert also won the Shawnee and Seminole tournaments in back-to-back weekends during the season.

In the championship of the postseason tourney, the Titans jumped on Dale for six runs in the third inning to cruise to a 6-2 triumph.

The six-run outburst was fueled by Jared Porter’s two-run triple.

The winning pitcher was Tyler Schuman (4-0), who tossed the first four innings with relief aid from Chris Mullins and Jordan Hawkins.

Carl Albert did not get a hit until the last of the seventh inning to stay alive in the semifinals against Chickasha.

Trailing 1-zip, Taylor Hawkins scratched for the initial Titan hit with a single and big brother Jordan ensued with a run-scoring triple to get even at 1-1.

Anthony Frazier then scored Jordan Hawkins with a sacrifice fly for the winning run in dramatic fashion.

Taylor Hawkins began the game going five innings allowing Chickasha’s lone hit of the game. Teammate Clark Roberts, who saved nine games this summer, pitched the final two innings for the win to improve to 4-2 on the season with a ultra-low 0.69 earned run average.

The Titans also defeated EastOC’s Jones, Tecumseh and Deer Creek in the competition.

Jordan Hawkins led Carl Albert in hitting with a .442 batting average (14 2Bs, 7 3Bs and 47 RBIs) followed by Taylor Hawkins (.430, 17 2Bs, 10 HRs and 44 RBIs), Roberts (.330) and Porter (.328).

On the hill, Jordan Hawkins was an untarnished 8-0 with a 0.70 earned run average and 48 strikeouts in 40 innings pitched ensued by Taylor Hawkins (5-0, 1.12 with 56 Ks in 31 1/3 innings), Jake Harbaugh (5-0, 1.42, 36 Ks), Schuman (4-0, 1.42, 34 Ks), Chris Mullins (5-1, 2.31, 42 Ks in 30 1/3 innings) and Roberts (4-2, 9 saves, 0.69 and 19 Ks in 20 1/3 innings).
