Jeffery Wayne Cooke
Jeffery Wayne Cooke, 40, of Midwest City, passed away Dec. 9, 2006. He was born Aug.10, 1966, to Jimmy Dale and Dorothy Cooke in Oklahoma City. Jeff owned his own business, Cooke Enterprises, where he was a security guard, bodyguard, K-9 officer and self-defense instructor. Jeff was also an avid gun collector and a member of the Oklahoma Rifle Association. Jeff had a tremendous love for animals and devoted much of his time to helping and saving them. Jeff enjoyed the outdoors and riding his Harley. Jeff is preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 12 years, Kelly Cooke; one son, Chadwick Cooke, of Midwest City; one sister, Karen Hansen and husband Steve, of Oklahoma City; two nieces; one nephew; and many friends. A private memorial service will be at a later date. Flowers or cards may be sent to 10108 N.E. 10th, Midwest City, 73130. Arrangements are entrusted to Hibbs Funeral Home.
Mary Josephine Bennett Judkins
Mary Josephine Bennett Judkins was born April 19, 1932, to John and Helen Bennett. She was raised in the Jones area. Although she traveled extensively, she always kept her home near her Oklahoma roots. She was a homemaker, business woman, wife and mother. She was fond of animals, and was well-liked throughout her life. Her business pursuits included dairy and beef farming, massage therapy and real estate. She succumbed after a 27-year long battle with cancer at about 8:30 p.m. Dec. 9, 2006. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and brother. She is survived by Kenneth Judkins; son, Keith Judkins, of Meeker; and daughter, Pamela Judkins Kriel, of Wichita. A memorial service was 2 p.m. Dec. 16, 2006, at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel.
Joan B. Stach
Joan B. Stach, 75, of Midwest City, was born June 27, 1931 in Seminole. She was the daughter of Carl and Minnie Weingartner. She passed away Dec. 9, 2006, at her home. She grew up in Seminole and graduated from Bow Leggs High School. She married Billie Stach in March of 1951. They had three children, Steven Stach, Peggy Sewell and Michael Stach. Moving to Midwest City in the early ‘60s, she accepted a position at Tinker Air Force Base where she retired 33 years later. After Billie passed in 1963, she became a single parent and did not remarry. She loved her children dearly and worked very hard to provide them a loving stable home on a single income. She loved to cook and collected cookbooks. Her other hobbies included crafting, canning, shopping, bowling, bingo and her animals. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Minnie Weingartner, of Seminole; and her brother, William (Bill) Weingartner, of Midwest City. She is survived by her brother, Charles Weingartner and his wife Vera, of Shawnee; sister, Dorothy Moser, of Oklahoma City; sister, Eileen Sharp and her husband Bob, of Tomball, Texas; brother, Carl Weingartner Jr., of Albuquerque; her children; grandchildren; a large extended family; and many friends including son, Steven Stach and his wife Barbara, of Leander, Texas; daughter, Peggy Sewell, of Oklahoma City; son, Michael Stach, of Choctaw; granddaughter, Christine Henderson, of Oklahoma City; grandson, Philip Stach, of Fort Worth; Jonathon Stach, of Austin, and Benjamin Stach, of Dallas; great-grandson, Simon Stach, of Fort Worth; Fred and Michelle Mears, of Oklahoma City; Rick Sewell, of Midwest City; Wayne Sewell, of Midwest City; Danielle Williams, of Oklahoma City; and numerous nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Services were 10 a.m. Dec. 14, 2006, at Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home at 1820 S. Douglas Blvd. in Midwest City. Burial was at Little Cemetery in Seminole.
Zona (Eaton) Horn
Zona Lee (Eaton) Horn, 72, died Dec. 9, 2006, at her home in Harrah. Graveside services were 3 p.m. Dec. 14 at the San Bois Cemetery in Haskell County. The Rev. Don Taylor officiated. Zona was born Nov. 21, 1934, in LeQuire, to Debs “Jake” Eaton and Rosie Bush Eaton. She received her education at Oklahoma Baptist University and Ft. Worth Theological Seminary. She worked various jobs and retired in 1995 from Tinker Air Force Base. She was faithful to her Lord and her church and was a good Samaritan who helped many people in her lifetime. From 1997 until 2003, she resided in the Rose Hill Community and cared for her mother, Rosie Eaton. Zona is survived by three children, Karen Shahan and husband Richard, of Franklin, Tenn., Andy Horn and wife Pati, of St. Louis, and Brad Horn, of Oklahoma City; two grandsons, Colin and Kyle Shahan; two sisters, Maxine Risch and husband John, of Beaver Dam, Wis., and Jo Ann Lankford and husband Steve, of Choctaw; three brothers, Marine and wife Connie, of Newcastle, and Howard and wife Michelle, of Stigler, and Gary, of Rose Hill; plus numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her father, Jake; mother, Rosie; three brothers, G.T., Jerry and Don; and a nephew, Scotty Eaton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the church of your choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Hibbs Funeral Home.
Hardy Henry Odom
Hardy Henry Odom, 90, of Midwest City, passed away Dec. 9, 2006. He was born Oct. 10, 1916, in Ardmore, to Jeffie C. and Almeda J. (McAfee) Odon. They later moved to Seminole, where Henry grew up. He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a flight engineer. Later, he was employed by the Civil Service and worked in procurement and quality assurance. Henry liked to play golf and did so a lot after he retired. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the India Shriners. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy. He is survived by a sister, Sadie B. Laird; two nieces; and two nephews. A graveside service was 2 p.m. Dec. 13, 2006, at Arlington Cemetery in Midwest City. Services were under the direction of Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home.
Orval Newton Lewis
A loving husband and father, Orval Newton Lewis, departed this world Dec. 10, 2006, after a brief illness. He was born to Clarence A. and Hulda (Haury) Lewis Sept. 10, 1922. He is preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Lorie Ann West. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nadine; sister, Wilma Jaffe, of Oakland, Calif.; sons, Larry, of Bethany, Robert, of Dillendorf, Germany, and Steve, of Cashion; daughters, Delores West, of Harrah, and Marla Cregan, of Ft. Worth, Texas; nieces, Bonnie Sita, of Oakland, Calif. and Alice Unger, of Los Angeles; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and admirers. He attained the rank of sergeant while serving in the U.S. Army Air Force on Tinian Island in the southwest Pacific during World War II. Orval was a skilled carpenter and construction superintendent and long standing member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners local 329. He was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles and working with his hands. Sgt. Lewis was buried with military honors 11 a.m. Dec. 16 in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Edmond. A funeral was at 12:30 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’ Witness of Nicoma Park. A man of deep integrity, he will be missed. Services were by Ford Funeral Service.
Gloria Payne
Gloria Payne, 61, died Dec. 10, 2006 in Midwest City. She was born Aug. 12, 1945, in McKinney, Texas, to Gerry and Betty Weidemann. In high school she was a twirler, played the clarinet, sang in a trio and received a band scholarship to college. Gloria moved from Pauls Valley to the Del City area where she resided for 38 years. She married Jerry Payne Sept. 24, 1966, in Buffalo, Okla. They were married for more than 40 years. She was an accomplished typist (more than 100 words per minute) and pianist. She worked for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a clerk. Top priorities in her life were her grandchildren and good companion, Puddles, the cat. Gloria was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her husband, Jerry; children, Julia Powell and her husband Eddie and Jeremy Payne and his wife Leah; mother, Betty Weidemann, of Woodward; sisters, Nancy Fauss and her husband Larry, of Oklahoma City; Virginia Lansbert and her husband Frank, of Hopeton, OK; and Carol and David Spencer, of Salt Lake City, UT; a brother, Craig Weidemann and his wife Susan, of Woodward; and grandchildren, Brooke, Amy and Anton Powell and Gracie Payne. Funeral services were noon Dec. 14, 2006, at the Free Methodist Church of Midwest City, 6500 E. Reno. Interment was 2:30 p.m. at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley. Services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home.
Elmer Hooks
Elmer Hooks passed away Dec. 11, 2006. He was 73. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; daughter, Cindy and her husband Robert Debrecht, of St. Charles, Mo.; son, William J. Hooks, of Jones; one brother, Okel Lee Hooks, of Seattle; a sister, Louise Hamby, of Dayton, Ohio; and grandchildren, Kevin Hooks, Darin and Darrel Debrecht and Brandon Hooks. Elmer was retired from the Air Force, having served his country for 26 years. He later retired after 20 years for the State of Oklahoma. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and an avid golfer, winning several trophies. Elmer was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family. He is preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Heart or Lung Foundation. A funeral service was 10 a.m. Dec. 15, 2006, at Our Lady of Fatima. Interment was at Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City. Services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour N.E.
Billy Gene Wood
Billy Gene Wood, 78, a longtime resident of Del City, was born in Wirt and passed away Dec. 11, 2006, at the V.A. Hospital. He is preceded in death by his dad, John T. Lester Wood; his mother, Claires Erma Stanford Wood; his first wife, Josephine Duncan Wood; four brothers, John A., Charles, Bob and Lester Earl Wood; and one sister, Adeline (sis) Mars. Bill was in the army and served in Germany and Korea. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Del City. He is survived by his wife, Elsa Dorine Wood; three sons, Lester, Kenneth and Larry Wood; three stepsons, Collin, Alden Jr. and Kenneth Ecker; one stepdaughter, Coleen Magness; one sister, Helen Cox; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many other family friends and church family. A viewing was Dec. 13 at Barnes and Johnson, 1820 S. Douglas Blvd. Services were 2 p.m. Thursday at Del City Church of the Nazarene. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park.
Phyllis Jean (Roof) Kelley
Phyllis Jean (Roof) Kelley, 67, of Harrah, was born Oct. 30, 1939, in Lemons, Mo. She was the daughter of Deward and Letha (Hackney) Roof. She left this life Dec. 12, 2006, in Harrah. Phyllis married James Albert Kelley Jan. 10, 1959, in Unionville, Mo. She worked as a billing clerk for Prime Inc. trucking company and was a homemaker. Phyllis was a member of the Eastern Star, the First Baptist Church of Harrah and H.A.R.C.H. She enjoyed sewing, making candles and crafts. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and four brothers. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Randall and Sheila Kelley, of Harrah, and Dennis Kelley, of Harrah; three brothers, Leon Roof, of Unionville, Mo., Robert Roof, of Unionville, Mo., and Basil Roof, of Lemons, Mo.; one sister, Cleta Alexander, of Unionville, Mo.; four grandchildren and spouses, Jason and Christine Kelley, Amy and Matt Miller, Amber Kelley and Christopher Prichard; one future great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside services were 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah. Dr. Tony Nickel officiated. Services were under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah.
