Georgia Frances Lanham
Georgia Frances Lanham, 89, of Midwest City passed away June 25, 2007, at her home. Services were 10 a.m. June 29 at Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Services were under the direction of Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home. She was born, the last of 12 children, Oct. 12, 1917, in El Reno, Okla., to John R. and Laura (Carey) Sandefur. She married Delmont “Monk” Lanham Aug. 31, 1941. Together they began Delco Diesel Services Inc. where she was president. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her siblings. She is survived by two sons, David Lanham and wife Terry of Edmond and Phil and wife Kathi of Kingston; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Billy John Bryant
Billy John Bryant, 80, of Del City passed away June 26, 2007. A prayer service was 7 p.m. June 28 in the Candlewood Chapel at Ford Funeral Service in Del City. Funeral services were 10 a.m. June 29 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Del City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Del City. He was born April 2, 1927, in Clarksville, Mo., as the eighth of 12 children born to Edward Hall and Genia Price Witten Bryant. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1946 during World War II. He served his country for more than 22 years. In 1970, he retired as a master sergeant from Tinker Air Force Base. His service earned him many awards, among them the World War II Victory Medal and the National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star. Upon retiring, he worked at General Motors from 1979-1989. The defining moment of his life however was when he met his true love, his wife of 56 years, Jeanne Marie Powers of Memphis, Tenn. The two were married in Memphis Oct. 13, 1951. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Del City since 1969. While at St. Paul’s, he served many years as the Director of the Usher’s program, he was a member of the Men’s Club and Knights of Columbus. He was also a proud member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Witten and Jack; and three sisters, Florence, Ann and Dorothy. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; four sons, John and wife Brenda of Broken Arrow, David of Fort Wayne, Ind., Edward and wife Robin of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Danny and wife Helen of Broken Arrow; two daughters, Carolyn Inman and husband John of Del City and Barbara Atchley and husband Curtis of San Antonio, Texas; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Edward, Mett, Joseph and Paul; and two sisters, Julia and Mary.
Donald Wayne Cox Sr.
Donald Wayne Cox Sr., 84, of Oklahoma City passed away June 22, 2007. Funeral services were 10 a.m. June 27 at Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Sunny Lane Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home. He was born May 3, 1923, to Ernest H. Cox and Mable Claire (Rowland) Cox in Rolfe, Iowa. He came to Oklahoma City in 1958 previously living in Van Nuys, Calif. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, an avid bowler and a lover of horses. He worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas from 1959 to 1976 and also volunteered for the Tulsa Center for Physically Limited. He is survived by his two sons, Michael D. Cox and Donald W. Cox Jr. of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Gwenn (Cox) Hurlbut of Tulsa; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Tommy Cox of Washington; two sisters, Vivian Smith and Virginia Lewis of Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Brenda ‘Joyce’ Hile
Brenda “Joyce” Hile, 58, of Oklahoma City passed away June 25, 2007. Services were 2 p.m. June 30 at Hibbs Funeral Home. Burial was at The Black Cemetery in Pink. She was born May 20, 1949, to Emory Gentry and Nellie (Sanders) Gentry in Oklahoma City. She was a member of Word of Life Tabernacle Church in Oklahoma City. She and her family were proud of her 15 years of sobriety. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jody and Glen Gentry; her husband, Daniel Pena; and her husband, David Hile. She leaves behind to cherish her memories two sons, Daniel Pena Jr. of Oklahoma City and David Hile Jr. of Moore; three daughters, Diana Lancaster, Deborah Pena and Nellie Wheeler, all of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Juanita Rainey of Moore, Bernice Leftwich, and Marilyn Galaviz and husband Joe of Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
James M. Westmoreland
James M. Westmoreland, 84, passed away June 27, 2007, in Midwest City. Funeral Services were 2 p.m. Friday at Candlewood Chapel. Burial followed at Sunny Lane Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Ford Funeral Service. He was born June 28, 1922, to Phillip and Clarra Westmoreland. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the Safeway Grocery Warehouse. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Shirley Brooks; a son, Larry Westmoreland; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
