Dewey Lester Hooker
Dewey Lester Hooker, 72, passed away May 27, 2007 in Oklahoma City. He was born April 9, 1935 in Lufkin, Texas to Clyde Lester and Beatrice Marie (Walker) Hooker. He served his country in the United States Navy. He worked as a draftsman in the chemical industry and also was a photographer. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandchild and a great-grandchild. He is survived by four daughters: Terressa Kay Bottorff of Belton, Mo., Darlina L. Laughlin of Oklahoma City, Kimberly K. Sanders and husband Darrell of Oklahoma City, and Jeanine A. Grimes and husband Robert of Tyler, Texas; three sons: Bobby Cantwell and wife Pam of Covington, La., Rocky Cantwell and wife Pat of Lawton and Dewey Lester Hooker and wife Heidi of St. Cloud, Minn.; fourteen grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at Bethel Assembly of God Church in Bethany at 10:30 a.m., May 30. Services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour N.E. Funeral Home.
LaVerne (Denton, George) Wood
LaVerne (Denton, George) Wood was born Dec. 17, 1931 to Aud and Nellie (Pulver) Denton near Wilburton. She passed away at Midwest Regional Hospital in Midwest Cityon May 26, 2007. She was a Christian. Upon the death of her mother she grew up in the American Legion Children’s Home in Ponca City where she graduated from high school on 1949. There, she was a cheerleader and “Best Citizen.” She gained an extended family of dozens at the American Legion Children’s Home. She was a member of Soldier Creek Baptist Church in Midwest City and former member of Dickson Baptist Church in Spencer. She was a paid-up-for-life member of American Legion Auxillary Unit 170 in Midwest City. She had been both teacher and sponsor for young people in Bible School and church activities. She loved doing ceramics, crocheting, reading, Bible study and John Wayne movies. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Arlie Wood; a son, Stephen Wade George and wife Jeannie; a daughter, Stephanie (George) Kudrna and husband Jeff; three grandchildren, Megan George, Chad Kudrna and wife Tricia, and Chandra (Kudrna) Sparks and husband Jason; a baby sister, Rotha Nell Butler; four stepchildren; Gary Don Wood, Janis Arlene Wood, Cheri (Wood, Murphy) Benfield and Michael Wood; a foster granddaughter, Nancy White and numerous step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers John Denton, Muriel Denton and Billy Denton and two sisters Lena Mae Denton and Bernice (Denton) Steele. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. May 30, 2007 at Soldier Creek Baptist Church with burial at Arlington Memory Gardens.
Donald Edwin Neighbors
Donald Edwin, 80, of Choctaw, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2007. He was an educator for 34 years. The last 22 years of his career he served as principal at both Choctaw High School and Choctaw Jr. High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and was stationed in the Philippines. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Choctaw where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member. He loved music and nurtured the musical abilities in his children. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a son, David. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy of the home; two daughters, Patricia of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Debra of Yukon; and a brother, Ronald of Palm Springs, Florida. Funeral services were held May 31 at the First Baptist Church in Choctaw. Burial followed at Morris Cemetery. Funeral services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home.
Paul Leon Weldon
Paul Leon Weldon, 82, of Midwest City passed away May 19, 2007. He was born Jan. 21, 1925 to Vance H. and Annabelle Morrow Weldon in Hallett. He graduated from high school in Mt. View before joining the U.S. Navy. He married Wanda Turney on July 27, 1955 in London, England. He served on submarines during a 24-year naval career before retiring in 1966. He moved to Midwest City where he owned ABC Auto Brake Co. He was an avid outdoorsman and a member of Meadowood Baptist Church. He was preceeded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and a son, Brad Weldon. Weldon is survived by his wife Wanda. Funeral services were held May 22 at Meadowood Baptist Church, under the direction of Ford Funeral Service. Burial followed at Arlington Memory Gardens.
Olive Lovella Miller
Olive Lovella Miller, 76, of Harrah was born Nov. 21, 1930 in Harrah. She was the daughter of Robert T. & Henrietta P. “Dolly” (Sweeney) Thornton. She passed away May 28, 2007, in Midwest City. She lived in Harrah all of her life. She worked as a sales supervisor for NPC Corporation for 26 years. She was a member of the Rebekah’s Lodge, a branch of the International Order of Odd Fellows and was a member of the Nazarene Church. She enjoyed dancing and watching cooking shows. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Rosetta Blair; and three brothers, Richard Thornton, Robert James Thornton and Vern Thornton. She is survived by a granddaughter, Vernnetta and husband Kyle Morris of Midwest City; three great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Services were held June 1 at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah. Burial followed at Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah.
