Helen Maurene Holt

Helen Maurene Holt, formerly of Midwest City, passed away at 1:50 p.m. May 23, 2007. She was born Oct. 15, 1916 to Thomas and Edith Slack of Kingfisher. She graduated from Kingfisher High School and earned a business degree while working in the county courthouse. While there, she met and married her husband of 54 years, Norman Cortez Holt, an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman, later chief of patrol. Moving to Midwest City, the couple joined The First Christian Church where Maurene was the organist for many years. Living there she won many prizes for her flowers. Each year Maurene held back-to-school parties for all the elementary school students on her block. A mother, Christian, fan of OU football, traveler, musician, horticulturist, art lover, master cook, fisherman, seamstress, lover of children, implementer of family values, she will be fondly remembered. Holt was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Ellen and husband Norman and two brothers, Thomas and William. She is survived by a brother, Marion Slack of Minnesota; a son, John Holt of McLoud, and a daughter, Madalynne Chapman of San Francisco. Funeral services were 10 a.m. May 26, 2007 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens. Funeral services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home.



Patsy ‘Shorty’ Speer Jenkins

Patsy “Shorty” Speer Jenkins, born April 18, 1937, died May 23, 2007. She was born in Lincoln County and raised in Kendrick. She loved to travel and believed in living life to its fullest. She was preceded in death by a son, Jayme Swafford, her parents Mack Speer, Minnie and Lester Ash; six brothers, Homer Leroy, Raymond “Pickey,” Mack “Buddy” Speer and Ray, Jerry Lee and Danny Ash; and a sister, Nita “Sis” Jenkins. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; a son, Michael Swafford; a daughter, Tamra Copeland and husband Roy, a stepson, John Jenkins, eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a future grandchild. She is also survived by four brothers and a sister, Johnny Speer and wife Debbie, Billy Joe Jackson, Johnny Ash and wife Dixie, Billy Don Ash and wife Iva and Doris Jean Lucas and husband Steve; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family received friends at a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. May 25 in the Candlewood Chapel at Ford Funeral Service in Midwest City. Services were held at 10 a.m. May 26 at Kendrick Community Church in Kendrick. Services were under the direction of Ford Funeral Service.



Marjorie O. (Hamilton) Miller

Marjorie O. (Hamilton) Miller, 80, of Guthrie, was born on June 6, 1926 in Webbers Falls. She was the daughter of Lushion Roy and Ila Lee (Judkins) Hamilton. She passed away May 23, 2007, in Oklahoma City. She was a homemaker and a volunteer at the Logan County Hospital. She was a member of the Joyful Singers, Good Sam Club, Red Hat Society and the Community Church in Guthrie. She enjoyed knitting crochet, embroidery, sewing, making porcelain dolls, ceramics, cooking, playing dominoes and board games. She loved her dog, Prissy and being with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and two grandsons. She is survived by her husband, Larry D. Miller of Guthrie; two sons, Lee Liles and wife Nita of Deer Creek and Chester Eugene Liles of Keithville, La.; a daughter, Annette Harris and husband Jim of Edmond; two stepsons, Scott Miller and wife Cindy of Edmond and Bobby Miller and wife Marie of Union City; a stepdaughter, Tammy Williams and husband Mike of Bethany; two brothers, Earl Hamilton and wife Sue of McAlester and Murel Hamilton and wife Evelyn of Sulphur, La.; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Services were held at 1 p.m. May 25 at the Community Church in Guthrie with Pastor Bill Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Tempa Jewel Bagley

Tempa Jewel Bagley, 96, passed away on May 24, 2007. She was born Aug. 13, 1910 in Francis to Clarence and Onah Chandler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Noah; two sons, William Earl and Bobby Joe; her parents; a sister Osey; a great-grandson, Robby, and great great granddaughter, Ashley. She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Kizer and Bonnie Mitchell; two sisters, Mattie Adams and Hattie Nelson; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. May 29, 2007 at the Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with burial at 2 p.m. at Erin Springs Cemetery in Lindsay. Services were under the direction of Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home.



Maverick Anthony Duane Lawhead

Maverick Anthony Duane Lawhead, was born at The University of Oklahoma Women and Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City at 4:12 a.m. May 24, 2007 and died at 5:04 a.m. May 24, 2007. He was welcomed by his parents, Robert Anthony and Kristin Helin Lawhead; his big sister, Mackenzie LeeAnn; his grandparents, Duane and Melva Jenkins; his aunt and uncle, Michael and Sarah Lawhead; several other family members, friend and medical personnel; and a photographer. He was given a name and blessing by his grandfather, Duane. He was then held, cuddled, and cherished by his family until he returned home to his Heavenly Father. Maverick weighed 4 pounds 1 ounce and was 18 inches long; he was a little early at 37 weeks and suffered from the chromosomal defect Trisomy 13 or Patau Syndrome. Imperfect in body, perfect in spirit he will always be loved and remembered. Ford Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.



Arvilla Taylor

Arvilla Taylor, 80, of Midwest City died after a two-year battle with cancer on May 23, 2007. She was born June 6, 1926 in Bowlegs to Lillie and Earnest Harris. A devout member of the First Presbyterian Church in Midwest City, she was active in Meals on Wheels until her illness. Prior to her retirement she owned Our Villa Ceramics & Dolls and was a doll maker and artist. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Doyle; a sister, Adeline; and four brothers, Holmes, Granville, Melvin and Harold. She is survived by a sister, Margaret; a daughter, Billy of Surprise, Ariz.; and a son, Royal of Yukon. She has five grandchildren, Deborah, Greg, Shannon, Shilo and Gila. She has five great grandchildren Ashton, Alyssa, Dana, Tya and Emmy. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2007 at Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Funeral servicers were under the direction of Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home in Midwest City.
