Linda Kay Weston-Deshong
Linda Kay Weston-Deshong lost her battle with cancer May 12, 2007. Her funeral was 2 p.m. today in the Candlewood Chapel at Ford Funeral Service. Her family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in the Candlewood Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Mercy Hospice Center. She was born Dec. 2, 1951, in Austin, Texas, to Oron Weston and Ruth Moore. She was a 1969 graduate of Midwest City High School. She was preceded in death by her father, Oron; two brothers, Harold and Tommy; and her loving husband, Ralph. She is survived by her mother, Ruth; two sisters, Karla (Phil) and Natalie (Robert); a daughter, Angela (Kent); two sons, Todd and Matthew; a grandson, Garrett; and many other relatives and friends.
Wiley Dewayne ‘Wayne’ Martin
Wiley Dewayne “Wayne” Martin of Midwest City passed away May 12, 2007, after a long battle with cancer. He was born July 18, 1945, in Paris, Texas. He was preceded in death by his two children, Penny Tedesco and Andy Sexton; his parents, Oliver and Dorothy Martin; two brothers, Jerry Martin and Clifton Martin; and a sister, Sue Shepherd. He is survived by his loving wife, Alene; a daughter, Tina Vanwinkle of Midwest City; a son, Clifton Martin of Del City; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Thelma King of Choctaw and Vicki Slaytor of Oklahoma City; a brother, Richard Martin of Oklahoma City; and many nieces and nephews; and many other loved ones and friends. He retired from General Motors after working as an electrician for 20 years. He was a member of two Unions, IBEW and UAW. Funeral services were 2 p.m. May 16, 2007, at the Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Sunny Lane Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home.
Allene (Pendergraft) Blackburn
Allene (Pendergraft) Blackburn, 73, of Harrah passed away May 9, 2007, in Harrah. Services were 10 a.m. May 12 at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah. The Rev. Hubert Gilbert officiated. Burial followed at Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah. Services were under the direction of Smith-Parks Funeral Service in Harrah. A guest book is available at www.smithparks.com. She was born May 11, 1933, in Stidham, the daughter of Henry and Vernie (Knight) Lee. She married Daniel E. “Gene” Blackburn in June 1953 in Sulphur. She was a homemaker and a beautician for 18 years. She was a member of the Harrah Red Rose Garden Club and she was the chairman of Harrah Day Committee several times. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel E. “Gene” Blackburn; a brother, J. B. Lee; and nephews, Mark Lee and Randy Lee. She is survived by a son, Jeff Blackburn and wife Lynnette of Harrah; a daughter, Debbie Burchett of Harrah; five brothers, Raymond Lee, of Davis, George Lee of Davis, Monroe Lee of Sulphur, Tuffy Lee of Davis and Bob Lee of Sulphur; a sister, Betty Lee Runyan of Sulphur; three grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
James Wilber Chapman
James Wilber Chapman, 84, of Midwest City passed away at Norman Regional Hospital May 10, 2007. Funeral services were 2 p.m. May 14 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel. Burial followed at Arlington Memory Gardens. Services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Northeast. He was born July 10, 1922, to Burl and Douglas Almeda (Foster) Chapman in Thackerville. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946. He married Loretta May 22, 1953, at Ft. Smith, Ark. He retired from Standard Roofing Company and had served as a police officer in Pratt, Kan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta (2003); his parents; and a grandson, Ed Bevins. He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Matthews and husband Bryan of Midwest City; two stepdaughters, Patricia Bevins and Phyllis Oulds; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; three nieces; and two nephews.
Patrick H. ‘Pat’ Harris Sr.
Patrick H. “Pat” Harris Sr., 76, of Seminole passed away May 9, 2007, at Solara Hospital in Shawnee. Services were Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. Burial with military honors was at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City. He was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Oklahoma City to parents Fred Carl Harris and Clara E. (Cordonnier) Harris. He served in the U.S. Army as an Army medic, serving with the Medical Company 15th infantry regiment until his honorable discharge March 23, 1954. Harris married Retha “Aldean” Phillips May 14, 1950, in Oklahoma City. He worked as a construction superintendent, overseeing the construction of the United Founders Tower and The Regency Tower. He worked for several construction companies including B&G Construction and Robert J. Harris Construction Company, until his retirement in 1981. After, he moved his family to Seminole where he was a member of the Highway Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Michael Harris Jr. (1990); five sisters; and four brothers. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Aldean Harris; five sons, Patrick Jr. Harris and wife Robyn of Seminole, Michael Harris and wife Teri of Seminole, Russell Harris of Seminole, Dr. Dennis Harris and wife Gay of Oklahoma City and Scott Harris and his fiancee’ Melinda Mesa of Victoria, Texas; a daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Linda and David Russell of Seminole; two brothers, Waldo Harris and wife Ann of Green Acres, Fla., and William Harris and wife Betty of Midwest City; a sister-in-law (wife’s sister), Isabel Liles of Oklahoma City; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Odessa Rickey
Odessa Rickey, a lifelong resident of Oklahoma City, passed away May 13, 2007. Visitation was noon to 9 p.m. today at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. May 17, 2007 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were conducted by Bill Eisenhour Northeast. She was born April 12, 1923, to Dwight and Jewel Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ralph. She is survived by Chris, James, Robbie and Tamara, all of Oklahoma City, Rod of Tahlequah, and Ralph II and wife Patricia of Overland Park, Kan.; a sister, Jacquie Stephenson of Savannah, Ga.; her twin brother, Oakleigh Smith of Tishomingo; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. From chemistry class, debate team and tennis to cheerleading, homecoming queen, book club president and loving mother; she exemplified excellence and integrity. A staunch patriot, she served her country during World War II in her civilian job repairing aircraft generators at Tinker Air Force Base.
Frances Leah Ross Hofeld
Frances Leah Ross Hofeld passed away May 9, 2007. Funeral services were 2 p.m. May 14, 2007, at Dickson Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Burial followed at Arlington Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City. Services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Northeast. She was born June 5, 1924. She grew up near Bethel and married the love of her life, Alfred, Dec. 24, 1945. In addition to their own children, the couple helped raise a younger brother and a niece. An active member of Dickson Baptist Church for several decades, she taught a ladies’ Sunday school class and enjoyed activities with the other senior adults. During a long career at AT&T, she was a supervisor and instructor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Alfred L. Hofeld; a son, Danny; her parents; four brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by a son, Lewis Hofeld and wife Beverly of Midwest City; two grandsons; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Avis Paxson of Tecumseh; and a brother, Bill Ross of Pittsburg, Calif.
Joy Arlene Cook
Joy Arlene Cook, 67, of Choctaw passed away at Baptist Medical Center May 11, 2007. Funeral services were 10 a.m. May 14 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel. Burial followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Choctaw. Services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Northeast. She was born June 20, 1939, to Charles and Helen (Wien) Kennedy in Rineyville, Ky. She married Orval Cook May 24, 1957, in Durant. She worked as a secretary for the Department of Education for the Sate of Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by a son, Keith Cook; and her parents. She is survived by a son, Orval Jr. of Quinlan, Texas; two daughters, Vickie Harbison and husband Danny and Sherri Cook; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Billie Alice Stewart and husband D.L.; and many other family members and friends.
Kathyln Calvert
Kathyln Calvert, 86, of Nicoma Park passed away May 12, 2007, at her residence with her family surrounding her. She was born April 2, 1921, in Grimes. She married Merril Dean Calvert Nov. 10, 1939, in Sayre. She is survived by her husband, Merril; three children and spouses, Bob and Anne Calvert of Oklahoma City, John and Trisha Calvert of Midwest City and Ginger and John Klover of Alma, Colo.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She and her husband combined a love of nature and a green thumb to create a garden spot that carried over into award winning orchids and begonias. She was an honorary member of the Begonia Society and received the honor of having a begonia named after her as well as having won many national Cultural Awards. She and her husband chose to have their ashes intermingled so they might continue their lives together in eternity. Prayer service was 7 p.m. May 15, 2007. A Mass service was 10 a.m. May 16, 2007, at the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Midwest City. Services were conducted by Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home.
Florence S. Beavers
Florence S. Beavers, 79, of Oklahoma City died May 13, 2007, in her home. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday. Services were 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sunny Lane United Methodist Church. The Rev. Rick Robart officiated. The funeral was conducted by Ford Funeral Service. She was born Jan. 16, 1928, in Enid, the daughter of Harry and Florence Green. She married Graham L. Beavers Feb. 11, 1945, in Garber. They moved to Del City in October 1949 and to their current home in November 1974. She worked for the State of Oklahoma Department of Child Welfare for 20 years but spent most of her life as a homemaker. She and her husband were Charter Members of Sunny Lane United Methodist Church and she served as President of United Methodist Women and sang in the choir. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Graham; three brothers, Harry Jr., Fred and Alford; a sister, Leona and her husband George Totten. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Bud and Betty Beavers and Tim and Dawna Beavers; nine grandchildren; three great-grandsons; two sisters and their husbands, Jean and Harvey Cochran and Evelyn and Dr. Art Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
