Richard C. ‘R.C.’ Brown
Richard C. “R.C.” Brown, 70, of Midwest City passed away April 3, 2007, at the V.A. Hospital in Oklahoma City. Services were 10 a.m. April 7 at Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Arlington Memory Gardens. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Richard by sending it to 6525 N. Meridian, Suite 110, Oklahoma City, OK, 73116. Services were under the direction of Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home. He was born April 10, 1936, in Bristow, to Willie and Serula Brown. He grew up in the Bristow area and graduated from Bristow High School. He married Shirley Ann Plummer in September of 1957, in Beebe, Ark. He served in the U.S. Army when they lived in Hawaii. They also lived in Arkansas and Texas before making Oklahoma their home. He worked in the oil field, retail sales and manufacturing. However, it was his latest job, driving a bus for the Mid-Del School District that he loved so much. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Angela Denise; and a grandson. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Lisa Darr of Shawnee; a son, Ronnie Brown and wife Shannon of Midwest City; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, George Brown of Bristow; and a host of other relatives and friends.
William Mathew Mattson
William Mathew Mattson passed away April 4, 2007. Graveside services were 10 a.m. April 9. Memorial services followed at Del City Christian Church. Services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Del City Christian Church. He was born July 22, 1922, in Angora, Minn., the youngest of four children. He was known by his many friends as Bill. He was a World War II veteran and an active member of the Del City Christian Church, the VFW and AARP. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hannah; and his three siblings. He is survived by his nieces and nephews.
Lois Lillion Reed
Lois Lillion Reed, 92, of Choctaw, passed away April 5, 2007, in Midwest City. Funeral services were 2 p.m. April 10 at Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Sunny Lane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, send donations to your charity of choice. She was born Oct. 24, 1914, in Hanna, to Harry and Mary Sheward. She had three sisters and one brother. She was married to Lon Reed in 1939. She moved to Choctaw with her family in 1970. She worked for Don’s Drive Inn for seven years and then at Queen Ann’s Cafeteria for 18 years. She is survived by six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Geneva Ferguson Mitchell Coburn
Geneva Ferguson Mitchell Coburn, 86, of Choctaw, died April 6, 2007. Her nephew, Randy Ferguson, conducted the funeral service at 10 a.m. April 10 at the First Baptist Church of Choctaw. Burial was at Arlington Memory Gardens. Services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Northeast. She was born Nov. 8, 1920, in Byars, to James and Arrah Ferguson. She moved to Oklahoma City by wagon with her family at the age of 9. She graduated from Capital Hill High School in 1938 and from Draughn’s Business School in 1939. During World War II, she worked at Douglas Aircraft as a “Rosie the Riveter” while her husband was stationed overseas. Upon returning from the war Archie and Geneva established a home in Choctaw. She worked at Tinker Air Force Base until retirement in 1975. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Choctaw since 1949. She enjoyed spending time with her family, quilting and helping her community through various civic groups. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Archie Mitchell and Delbert Coburn; and a brother, Coy Ferguson. She is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Phyllis and Stratton Weatherly and Gwendolyn and Daniel Harton, all of Choctaw; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Adrian Ferguson of Midwest City, Kenneth Ferguson of Oklahoma City and Gene Ferguson of Eufaula; two sisters, Wilma Daley of Bridge Creek and Rita Walker of Apache; and many nieces and nephews. Her family thanked Dr. Zewdie and the staff at Davita and Quality Health Care.
Thelma Muryle Kostiuk
Thelma Muryle Kostiuk, 92, of Harrah, passed away April 6, 2007, in Midwest City. Graveside services were 2 p.m. April 10, 2007, at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in Harrah. Father Raphael officiated. Services were under the direction of Smith~Parks Funeral Service in Harrah. A guest book is at www.smithparks.com. She was born Dec. 14, 1914, in Luther, the daughter of Alvin Felix and Rubye (Boydston) Davis. She was a retired beautician and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; and a sister, Carmen. She is survived by two sons, Stefan and Edwin; a daughter, Robin; two brothers, Jerry and George; a sister, Jeanne; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
Orvella Harjo
Orvella Harjo, 55, of Del City, passed away April 6, 2007. A prayer service was 7 p.m. April 10. Funeral services were 10 a.m. April 11, both at the Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Kolb Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home. She was born to William Allen and Louise Laverne (Samuels) Amos Nov. 23, 1951, in Shawnee. She was a clerical worker in the insurance industry. She is survived by her husband, Glen; her beloved Chihuahua Keda; parents, William and Louise Amos of Idabel; a brother, Mike Amos and wife Vicky and their children; a sister, Nancy Williams and husband Ron of Edmond; two sister-in-laws, Cynthia Yerby and husband Monty and their children and Christi Woodard and husband Eric and their children; a brother- in-law, Anthony Harjo and wife Lori and their child.
Ruby Ellen Steward
Ruby Ellen Steward, 83, of Midwest City died April 6, 2007. She was born Nov. 20, 1923, in Red Oak, the daughter of Robert F. and Ola Dunlap. She was a charter member of Crest Baptist Church and was retired from the business office at Midwest Regional Hospital. She loved OU and OSU football and basketball, fishing in Oklahoma lakes and her dachshund, Piper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, who died in 1990. She is survived by a son, Eddie R. and wife Nina J. Steward of Midwest City; a grandson and his wife; a brother Robert Dunlap of Midwest City; a sister, Ina Rahe Sibley of Midwest City; and numerous nieces and nephews; two step-grandsons and their wives; four great-grandchildren. Services were conducted by Ford Funeral Service at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Candlewood Chapel at Ford Funeral Service. The Rev. Benny R. Powell officiated.
Marcie Snyder
Marcie Snyder, 53, of Luther, passed away April 7, 2007, after eight courageous years battling cancer. Funeral services were 2 p.m. today at the Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home. Burial followed at Arlington Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Viewing was 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday with a formal visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Services were under the direction Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home. She was married to Ron Snyder for 21 years and raised three children, Mary Boone, Aaron Morehead and Ethan Gardner. She was a member of the Kiowa, Cheyenne and Pine Ridge Sioux tribes. She was a secretary at Kerr-McGee for 12 years. She is survived by her father, Carl Gardner; a sister, Becky Gardner; and two brothers, Michael Gardner and Paul Gardner. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Gardner; and a son, Daniel Morehead. The family thanked the Luther Church of Christ for their support and Dr. Rahe and his Oncology staff at St. Anthony’s Cancer Care Center for their loving care.
Ruth Marie Wilson
Ruth Marie Wilson of Oklahoma City died April 7, 2007. Services were 11 a.m. today in the Candlewood Chapel at Ford Funeral Service. Services were conducted by Ford Funeral Service. She was born in Roff June 17, 1913, the daughter of William Johnson Keen and Anna Oma Keen. She retired from Phillips Petroleum after 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, William Delmas “Slim” Wilson, who died Aug. 18, 1991; a daughter at birth; three sisters; a brother; nine half brothers and sisters; and a grandson. She is survived by a brother, James W. Keen and wife Corine; four daughters, Shirley A. and husband Raymond Buchanan, Connie J. and husband Don E. Moore, Barbara S. Moore and Sharon K. and husband Jimmy R. Moore; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family thanked her caregiver and friend, Pauletta Harrell and Betty and Jim Wright and Choice Hospice, especially Linda and Chaplain Gregory, who allowed Ruth to pass away at home in comfort surrounded by her family.
