Duane Robert “Dutch” Owens
Duane Robert “Dutch” Owens, 73, of Harrah, passed away Feb. 11, 2007. Services were held 3 p.m. Feb. 16 at Hibbs Funeral Home Chapel. He was born Oct. 28, 1934, to Andrew and Mabel Owens in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1953 in Omaha, Neb., and was a barber during his service. He loved dancing, listening to music, fishing, traveling to Las Vegas, selling watermelons and making floral arrangements. He was famous for his tall tales and bargaining at swap meets. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Darrell Owens; and a sister, Dorothy Fairley. He is survived by four sons, Michael Owens of Dawson, Iowa, Jeffery Owens and wife Vicki of Whatcheer, Iowa, Christopher Owens of North Liberty, Iowa, and Harry McCormick, Lansing, Kan.; two daughters, Stacy Greiner and husband Paul of Richland, Iowa, and Stephanie Manderscheid and husband Kevin of Maple Valley, Wash.; a sister, Dona Auch and husband Vernon of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Owens of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and many friends.
Connie S. Standifer
Connie S. Standifer was born in Illinois, but was a longtime resident of Oklahoma. She passed away Feb. 14, 2007, in Midwest City. Memorial services were 1 p.m. Feb. 17 at Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Services were under the direction of Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home. She graduated from Midwest City High School in 1954. After an absence, she and her family established a home in the Midwest City area. She was preceded in death by a son, Derek. She is survived by a daughter, Keri; a grandson, Joshua and wife Jennifer Cruzan of Tulsa; and Ray and Joyce Shirley, cherished family members and those devoted to her care, particularly throughout her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter in Norman.
Mary Elizabeth Friday
Mary Elizabeth Friday, 92, passed away Feb. 17, 2007, at Midwest City Regional Medical Center. The family will greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Paylor Dignity Memorial Chapel. Services are under the direction of Paylor Funeral Home. She was born Feb. 3, 1915, in DeQueen, Ark., and was the youngest and last surviving child of Phillip Ward and Hattie Hendricks Ward. She married Elbert Walter Friday. They settled in Midwest City in 1965. As Elbert’s health declined in his last years she was his primary caregiver. He died in 2000. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and regularly attended religious services at the Tinker Air Force Base Chapel. She is survived by her three sons, Dr. Elbert W. “Joe” Friday and wife Karen of Virginia; Phillip M. Friday and wife Deborah of Pennsylvania; and James R. Friday and wife Sandra of England; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Charlotte Eileen Wilcutt Mappes
Charlotte Eileen Wilcutt Mappes passed away Feb. 17, 2007. She was born June 18, 1924, in Pittsburg, Kan., to Wynona Eileen (Jones) Wilcutt and Charles Wilcutt. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Dr. Patrick W. Mappes. She is survived by a son, Michael E. Mappes; and everyone’s beloved, Elizabeth Fine, her sister, Pamela King and husband Dr. Robert King; her granddaughter; and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She graduated from Kilgore High School in Kilgore, Texas in 1941. She graduated from Parkland Hospital School of Nursing in Dallas, Texas, in 1945. She joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps where she served one year and earned a pilot’s license. She married and settled in Midwest City. She was a nurse at Weslyn/Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was active in the Association of Operating Room Nurses and in many service leagues, including EZA. The family thanks the staff at Hospice Quality Care for their care. Graveside services were 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at Arlington Memory Gardens. Services were under the direction of Ford Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.
David R. Carlin
David R. Carlin, 56, of Midwest City, passed away Feb. 18, 2007, in Tulsa. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Feb. 22 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial took place at 1 p.m. in the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin. Services were under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. He was born June 6, 1950, in Chickasha, the son of David A. and Claudine Carlin. His family moved to Fredonia, Kan. and he graduated from Fredonia High School in 1969. After graduation, he moved back to Chickasha and joined the U.S. Army. He served during Vietnam and was stationed in Germany. He married Deborah (Wenninger) Carlin July 3, 1970, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They made their home in Chickasha. He graduated from USAO with a political science degree. He worked as a mud logging engineer, a postman, at the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission and at the Oklahoma State Department of Veteran Affairs. He was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Don Wenninger. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Carlin; a daughter, Amy Carlin of Dallas; his mother, Claudine Carlin of Fredonia, Kan.; a brother, Tim Carlin and wife Trish of Denison, Texas; Danny Carlin; his in-laws, Bob and Zelda Wenninger of Cement; three brothers-in-law and their wives; and many nieces and nephews.
Sammie Murle Smothers
Sammie Mur1e Smothers, 76, passed away Feb. 18, 2007. Services are under the direction of Bill Eisenhour S.E. He was born Feb. 15, 1931, to Robert Lee Smothers and Luna Agnes (Hatfield) Smothers in Apache. At the age of 17, he joined the Army Air Corps. He transferred two years later to the Air Force for 20 years. After, he worked for the federal government in Tennessee, Texas, Fort Sill and Oklahoma City. He then became a real estate broker and investor. He sang in the church choir at Sunnylane Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Raymond, James Iverel and wife Laura, Leonard, Kenneth and wife Marge and Vernon; and two sisters, Ruby and husband Hobart Miller and Hazel Wood. He is survived by his wife, Marcella (Marcie); three daughters, Janet Ashby and husband Bret of Shreveport, La., Vicki Curtsinger and husband Jimmy of Cache and Carolyn Smothers of Del City; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; 10 nieces; four nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of friends.
Audie Fay Crick
Audie Fay Crick, 78, passed away Feb. 17, 2007. Services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour S.E. Funeral Home. She was born Sept. 28, 1928, in Elmore City, to Calvin and Audie Williams (Ennis). She married Floyd G. Crick July 22, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1985. She is survived by a son, Floyd and wife Bennie of Del City; and a daughter, Gloria Burnett of Canaan, Ark.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Glenna Marie Anderson Bell
Glenna Marie Anderson Bell, 55, passed away Feb. 19, 2007, at her home. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Feb. 22, 2007, at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel. Burial followed at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour N.E. She was born Oct. 12, 1951, to Charlie and Mildred Anderson in Harrah. She married Robert Edward Bell Dec. 2, 1976. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She retired from Lucent Technologies. She is survived by her husband, Robert; three sons, Michael and wife Kimberly, Billy and wife Amy and Brian Bell; her mother; three brothers; a sister; four granddaughters; and three grandsons.
Ruth Pearl Cramer
Ruth Pearl Cramer, 71, of Jones, died Feb. 19, 2007, at home. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Feb. 23 at Choctaw Church of the Nazarene. Burial followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Choctaw. Services were under Barnes & Johnson Funeral Home. She was born March 12, 1935, in Pryor, to Harry Raymond and Arvilla Mae (Billups) Hines. She attended Bethany Nazarene College. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Lewis Gene Cramer; four daughters, Rowena Larsen, Karen Wolf, Beverly Purvis and Dana Hocker; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed Hines; and five sisters, Arvilla Woods, Elsie Justus, Billie Jean Wells, Mary Hines and Harriet Ciacco.
Dora Irene Waller Cheatham
Dora Irene Waller Cheatham passed away Feb. 19, 2007. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Feb. 22 at Bill Eisenhour N.E. Chapel. Burial took place at Arlington Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association. She was born Oct. 23, 1916, in Fremont, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dock and Ethel Stinnett; her husband, Donald M. Waller; her twin sons, Ronald and Donald Waller; and a daughter, Brenda McCammon. She is survived by a daughter, Sonia Waller Moore of Oklahoma City; two sons, Mike Waller and wife Camille of Norman and Rocky Waller and wife Edwina Locke of Purcell; a daughter-in-law, Geneva Waller of Midwest City; a sister, Dockie Pulliam; and 11 grandchildren. She had a second marriage to the late Charlie Cheatham.
Edward R. Boso
Edward R. Boso, 66, formerly of Charleston, W.V., died Feb. 21, 2007. Services were Feb. 24 at Mt. Tabor Church of God in St. Albans, W.V. He was employed at Midwest City’s wastewater treatment facility. He was born May 26, 1940, in St. Albans, W.V. to Kinsman and Mary Boso. He loved hunting and fishing and his seven grandchildren, Cale, Taylor, Kari, Melissa, Cassady, Courtney and Riley. He is survived by his wife, Sue Boso; a son, Chuck Boso and wife Sharon of Oklahoma City; and two daughters, Jenny Woodall and husband Glen of Nitro, W.V., and Mary Dunlap and husband Alvie of Sumerco, W.V. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to 1105 Main Ave., Nitro, W.V., 25143 to assist in funeral expenses.
