Laurice Nadine Sinz
Laurice Nadine Sinz was born Oct. 12, 1930, to Benjamin and Effie Aukland in Macedonia, Iowa, and departed this life Jan. 15, 2007, at her home. The family moved to Clearfield, Iowa, in 1941 where she graduated high school in 1948. After graduation, she went to Omaha, Neb. where she married P.B. Thompson in 1950. To that union four children were born — Kristi Beth, Kelli Denise, Kendall Presley and Kory Michael. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kelli; a baby brother, Roger; and a sister, Priscilla. She is survived by her husband, Robert; a daughter, Kristi; two sons, Kendall and wife Kay and Kory and wife Dawn; three stepsons, Paul Sinz, Michael Sinz and wife Jo Ann and Bob Sinz and wife Mary; two stepdaughters, Diana Sinz and Anita Wrench and husband Chuck; a brother, Charles Aukland and wife Shirley; 20 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 18 at Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home.
Kathrine Eyline (Cox) Hobbs
Kathrine Eyline (Cox) Hobbs, 77, passed away Jan. 12, 2007. She was born Jan. 17, 1929, in Cache, to Joe Wilburn and Sarah Malissia Cox (Ashford). She married John Vinn Hobbs Oct. 20, 1943. In 1967, they moved to Harrah where they owned a DX gas station and grocery store for 11 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John V. Hobbs; a brother, Thomas Cox of Oregon; two sisters, Mildred Lyon of Harrah and Helen Luna of Geronimo; a great-grandson; a niece; and nephews. She is survived by two siblings, Marie Sheppard of Washington and Charles Cox of Texas; four children, Larry Hobbs and wife Betty of Midwest City, Rex Hobbs and wife Linda of Geronimo, Connie Melton and husband Royce of Harrah and Sandra Chambers and husband Stephen of Harrah; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Preferred Hospice of Oklahoma City and the staff of the Harrah Nursing Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Jan. 17, 2007, at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah. Chaplain Ray Wade will officiate. Kathrine will be laid to rest at Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah. Maxine White
Maxine White, 87, died Jan. 9, 2007. She was born Nov. 15, 1919, in Wetumka. She lived in Midwest City for the past seven years and Choctaw for 35 years. She married her now late husband, Lee Roy White Dec. 10, 1939. She worked as a housekeeper at Baptist Hospital for eight years. She is survived by seven children, Wendell White and wife Terrie of Oklahoma City, Beverly Fine and husband David of Newalla, Joyce Martin and husband Paul of Newalla, Ronnie White and wife Lillian of Midwest City, Linda Sweet and husband Jim of New York, Troy White and wife Becky of Ada and Teresa Smith and husband Randy of Midwest City; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and six brothers. Services were held 2 p.m. Jan. 12, 2007, at Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel. Burial took place at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
Billy J. Miller
Billy J. Miller, of Midwest City, died Jan. 10, 2007. He was born in Bessie, on May 18, 1927, the third of seven children. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II where he was a chief radio officer. After his service, he worked for the Kerr-McGee Corporation in Kuwait. After returning, he began a 31-year career at Tinker Air Force Base where he served in senior management before retiring in 1982. During his career at Tinker, he received the Department of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Midwest City for 45 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty; a son, Gary Miller and wife Janet of Harrah; three daughters, Gayle Pruett and husband Bobby of Boulder, Colo., Linda Noland and husband Bill of Oklahoma City and Connie Harris and husband Randy of Midwest City; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held Jan. 16, 2007, at Sooner Baptist Church in Midwest City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Services were under the direction of Bill Eisenhour S.E.
Betty Jo Garcia
Betty Jo Garcia, 76, of Oklahoma City, was born Jan. 28, 1930 in Oklahoma City, the daughter of L.C. and Fern Wythe. She was a licensed cosmetologist and a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Manuel Garcia. She is survived by five siblings, Dale Wythe, Sandra Jesse, Gloria Bastin and husband Gary, Cynthia VanCuren and husband Gary, and Pamela Cook and husband Terry; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and friends. Services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Candlewood Chapel at Ford Funeral Service. Burial took place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Edmond.
Mildred M. Basinger
Mildred M. Basinger, 94, was born March 15, 1912, in Sentinel, and passed away Jan. 11, 2007. She married Bill Basinger Dec. 10, 1932, and moved to Del City in 1946. They were charter members of Sunny Lane United Methodist Church where she was past president of UMW, a longtime Sunday school teacher, active in Bible study and the church historian. The Basingers owned and operated “Myrt’s Drive-In” in Del City for several years. Then in 1957, they began their career as florists with the purchase of Ladonna’s Flowers in Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Basinger; a daughter, Ladonna Peterson; and a brother, Grady Moore. She is survived by two sisters, Melba Bleigh of Del City and Lemma Clark of San Angelo, Texas; two grandsons; five great-grandsons; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Ford Funeral Service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunny Lane United Methodist Church.
Larry Lewis Broadie, M.D.
Services for Larry Lewis Broadie, M.D., 66, of Ada, will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 17, 2007, at the Central Church of Christ. Bud Ross will officiate. Burial will be held Jan. 18 at the Rock Cemetery in Granite, after services at Granite Church of Christ at 1 p.m. Dr. Broadie died Jan. 11, 2007. He was born Feb. 25, 1940, in Mangum, to James Lloyd “Peck” Broadie and Opal Belle Harper Broadie. He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State College with a degree in pharmacology. In 1964, he graduated from Kansas University with a master’s. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona and, in 1978, received a medical degree from the University of Oklahoma. He was a family practice and emergency room physician. He was employed at Valley View Regional Hospital and was a pharmacist and associate professor of pharmacology at Southwestern Oklahoma State College. He married Barbara Christeen Colson June 1, 1962. He served as the Medical Liaison for CASA and volunteered at the Compassion Outreach Center. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Ada; his mother-in-law, Beatrice Colson of Granite; his adopted mother, Lavita Ford of Granite; a son, James Broadie and wife Shannon of Ponca City; a daughter, Deidre Stuehrenberg and husband Scott of Altus; six siblings, J.L. Broadie of Mustang, Crystal Colson and husband Bill of Granite, Janice Clopp and husband H.C. of Fairfield, Texas, Sharon Sandwith and husband Roger of Friday Harbor, Wash., and Nancy McGavock and husband Jerry of Granite; three grandchildren; many relatives, friends and loyal patients. He was preceded in death by his parents; amd two aunts; Madge Mitchell and Eunice Hoskins. Services conducted by Criswell Funeral Home.
Helen I. Crowel
Helen I. Crowel, 70, of Midwest City, died Jan. 12, 2007. She was born June 23, 1936, to James and Delphine King. She married Jeremy Crowel March 9, 1956. They moved to made Midwest City in 1968. She retired as an assistant manager of Commonwealth Theatres in Oklahoma City. She is survived by two sons, Michael Crowel and Tony Crowel and wife Jennifer, all of Midwest City; a daughter, Sherry Howard of Midwest City; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; an expected great-grandson; and two sisters, Ann Story and Joyce Pope, both of Franklin, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sharon F. Shaver; two sisters; and a brother. Services were held Jan. 16 at Faith Community Christian Church with burial at Arlington Memory Gardens, services under the direction of Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home.
