Harrah Realtor promises homeshoppers 'East is in'

By Andrew W. Griffin, Sun contributor

For Lindsey Kennedy, a Realtor with Keller Williams East, the buzz in Eastern Oklahoma County is “East is in.”

By that, the Harrah native means that the housing market in places like Choctaw and elsewhere in that portion of the county has been steady.

“It’s growing at a steady pace,” said Kennedy. “It’s getting more and more desireable to be out here.”

For Kennedy, becoming a Realtor did not happen right off the bat. It was several years ago that Kennedy began working approximately seven years ago as a receptionist at a RE/MAX office in the area.

“It was my first contact with real estate,” she said. “While I worked there I realized I really liked it.”

But it would be a while before Kennedy decided to become a Realtor herself. First, she got married and then joined the Keller Williams East office in Choctaw after it opened in 2007. Working as a receptionist and office manager at first, it wasn’t long before her boss asked her if she’d be interested in becoming a Realtor.

“I got my license in June (of 2007),” she said. “I had my first listing that month and it was sold by August.”

Witnessing this kind of first-time success was a real boost for Kennedy.

“It was a really good start,” she said.

Working at Keller Williams East has been an awesome experience for Kennedy.

“It’s a faith-based office and we pray before meetings,” Kennedy said. “Faith is important to me.”

When it comes to offering advice to clients, Kennedy said she tells them “don’t stress and don’t make rash decisions.”

“Talk with your spouse, your family, whatever,” she said. “Decide what you really want and understand you may not get everything you want.”

She pretty much tells sellers the same information, adding that she urges folks not to get too worked up about the national news when it comes to the housing crisis and the economy.

“The market in Oklahoma is steady,” she said, adding that issues related to location, schools, and preferences like bathrooms, bedrooms, acreage and square footage should be considered.

For Kennedy, potential buyers and sellers in the real estate market should always keep in mind that Eastern Oklahoma County is a great place to live and work.

“It’s booming,” she said.
