A quarter century in Del City

By Aaron Wright, Sun Editor

Susan Rogers has an exhautive to-do list. Between her time as a mother and grandmother, double business owner and community leader, Rogers maintains a full day. How does she manage to do it all?

“I have good help,” she stated. To show how thankful she is to the citizens and those who have helped her in her endevours, Rogers celebrated her 25th anniversary as owner of the Del City Tag Agency with free food for the community all day Tuesday.

“This is my way of saying thank you to the community,” she said. “They have been very good to me.”

She called it a taste of Del City because she picked up food from various restaurants around town to showcase the community’s cuisine.

The day wasn’t just a thank-you to the community, though. Del City Mayor Brian Linley issued a proclamation on behalf of Del City congratulating Rogers on her anniversary with the city. The proclamation also recognized her for showing pride in her Native American heritage by displaying Native American art in the office. In addition, it celebrated her services as past president of the Del City Chamber of Commerce, founder of Mid-Del School Foundation, treasurer of the Rose State College Foundation and a business woman in Del City for 30 years.

“She has the best interest of heart for Tinker Air Force Base, the city of Del City and the businesses here,” said Linley.

Rogers came to Del City from the small town of Stidham, Okla. She moved to the metro area to attend Hills University and majored in business. After graduation she worked for the employment security commission for the state of Oklahoma.

After hearing about the quality of the Mid-Del school system, she became invested in Eastern Oklahoma County. After leaving the government position, she operated a welcome service in Del City where she went door-to-door to welcome people to the community. She also created the Susan Rogers Tax Practice, which is still in existence and sits next door to the tag agency. Her office is stationed in the center of the two businesses.

“I just walk from one door into the other and change my hat,” she explained.

When she walks out of her office, Rogers continues to wear various hats such as the vice president of the military affairs commitee for the Del City Chamber of Commerce.

“Tinker is vital to our community,” she said, explaining her interest in military affairs. “A citizen of this area has to be concerned about what goes on at Tinker.”

Rogers is also a member of the Choctaw, Midwest City, Del City and state Chamber of Commerces.

For Rogers, retirement isn’t a current word in her vocabulary. She said she’ll retire when her work ceases to be fun.

“Right now I’m having a good time,” she said.
