The Mid-Del School Board summary

By Aaron Wright, Sun Editor

Technology was a main part of the July 14 Midwest City-Del City Public School Board Meeting. Over $600,000 was approved to be spent on the purchase of computers and computer related items needed for the upcoming school year.

One particular purchase that was approved was for offsite data backup software and services. A move Dr. Deering explained was necessary and a long time coming. This service will cost $48,990 a year.

Regularly voted on issues were approved by a blanket vote at the beginning of the meeting. These items included decisions such as approving the blanket position salary reserves report for 2007, approving out-of-state or overnight travel requests, approving blanket purchase orders to background checks and approving the minutes of the June 9 meeting.

During this meeting, Carl Albert was recognized for being named the Oklahoma 5A High School of the Year by Coaches’ Aid. The athletic director addressed the board and explained the various awards such as state championships that led to this title.

During his report, Bill Scoggan, superintendent, presented some of the highlights of the 2008 Spring Testing Results. He noted that the results are preliminary and that already they had been notified of changes.

The 2008-2009 Student Expectation Policies, Procedures and Safety Guidelines were approved. These guidelines address issues such as attendance policies, dress code, student publications, motor vehicle rules, off-campus events and student rights and responsibilities.

A painting contract was approved that will allow painting to be done at Mid-Del Technology Center and Del Crest Middle School by Breeden Painting. Cost for this project will be $24,000 for the middle school and $16,781 for the technology center.

Various maintenance and construction requests were approved. These included approving the recommendation of Capital State Equipment to replace curtains at Barnes Elementray for $4,876, remodeling special needs classrooms at Midwest City High School for under $14,700 and remodeling special needs classrooms at Monroney Middle School for under $14,000. A flooring contract with Bentley Flooring to replace carpet in two elementary schools was approved. The chair noted that this was the only bid for the job and questioned the lack of competition. She was told the other competitor did not submit a bid.

Personnel Reports were approved for the following areas: Certified personnel, non-certified personnel, child nutrition and transportation. Rick Croslin was also approved as the new high school principal for Midwest City High School. He was in attendance at the meeting.

The next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 11.
