Choctaw police attempting to rid not-needed firearms

The city of Choctaw will attend a hearing July 9 at 2:45 p.m. in Judge Parrish’s courtroom to receive permission to destroy or transfer firearms and other personal property the city currently possesses.

Police Chief Billy Carter said the station is ready to clear out a collection of guns the police station has had over 90 days. He predicts that most of the guns will be destroyed. If any of the guns are in the proper shape to be used by the police force, Carter said they may request that the city keep those.

If a Choctaw resident believes an item or firearm belongs to them, they are asked to verify their ownership at the Choctaw Police Station, 13240 N. E. 23rd St., or the Choctaw City Hall, 2500 N. Choctaw Road. A list of all items is available at these locations.

Anyone who wishes to object to the city’s application to destroy or transfer firearms and personal items is asked to attend the hearing.

This process is in line with Oklahoma Statue 34-104 and the City of Choctaw Municipal Code of Ordinances, Section 13-502.
