  • The hero of Hartsdel
    Batman may be all the buzz right now, but he isn’t the only citizen turned crime fighter who’s making a difference. Bobbie Fry of Del City is proving that you don’t have to be a billionaire or own every possible gadget to reduce crime in a community, and she doesn’t even wear a mask.
    Her method, energizing her community and forming a neighborhood watch. She says it’s the first in the state.
  •  Remembering John White of Luther
    Pat Ulrich said that sometimes people talk about others after they die as if they were perfect human beings. She said she didn’t want to take that approach with her great-grandson, John White, who was shot July 7 at a friend’s home. He passed away July 9.
  • Maj. Gen. Loren Reno talks to Spencer council
    The best relationships go both ways, and that is the type of arrangement the city of Spencer and Tinker Air Force Base share. Spencer values Tinker and Tinker feels just as fondly about the city.
  • School Report Card: Star Spencer
    The Senior class at Star Spencer High School saw everyone end up with their diploma after graduation; 100 percent of their class graduated compared to the 97 percent of the state.
  • Sooner Rose teacher particiaptes in class on good citizenship
    Jennifer Bazzit teaches fourth and fifth grade social studies at Sooner Rose Elementary School in Midwest City because she thinks it’s important to help students become better citizens. Bazzit also got a crash course in citizenship on July 13-17 as part of the Programs Advancing Citizenship Education Institute, coordinated by the Oklahoma Bar Association. She was one of 12 teachers selected from an application process to attend. The entire week was funded by the Oklahoma Bar Association.
  • Tinker changes its command
    Tradition prevailed at Tinker on July 18 as a 72d Air Base Wing Change of Command ceremony, a 200-year-old event, was held. During this ceremony, Col. Mark Correll relinquished command to Col. Allen Jamerson. Maj. Gen. Loren Reno presided over the ceremony.
  • Midwest City plans festival
    The city of Midwest City is anxiously awaiting its turn in the spotlight. It won’t be too much longer as the city will be the main attraction on Wednesday, July 23, when KOCO-TV 5 airs two live broadcasts from Town Center Plaza.

    Some residents of Midwest City who have their trash collected on Fridays will be switching to a new day of week, depending on where they live. The switch will take place on Aug. 5.
